AfDB To Finance Zambia National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program

The Republic of Zambia has received African Development Bank (AfDB) and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) loans and a grant from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative (RWSSI) to finance part of the National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program from 2015 to 2019.

The principal objective of this program is to provide sustainable and equitable access to improved water supply and improved sanitation to meet basic needs for improved health and poverty alleviation for Zambia’s rural population in Western Province.

The program will improve social conditions (i.e., health, education, income generation, empowerment, etc.) and transform communities that are better able to prepare for and respond to a wide range of changing conditions including climate change.

The project includes Water Supply Infrastructure Development, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion, Sector Development and Program Management
