Air France KLM has launched weekly freighter service offering 5 weekly connections to Lusaka from Amsterdam through their subsidiary, Martinair Cargo.
According to the Communications and Branding Manager with the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL), Sally Namutowe, cargo movement in Zambia reported a 19% decline between January and December 2014, but the ZACL is confident that this new service will result in improved cargo movement.
The ZACL representative went on to explain in a recent interview with the Daily Mail Zambia the decline in cargo movement was caused in part by the ongoing roadwork and fewer players in the Zambian freight transport market which resulted in increased costs for air freight in the country, but recent upgrades to the current infrastructure are expected to improve customer performance at all the four international airports.
Martinair Cargo is part of Air France- KLM-Martinair Cargo, that operates scheduled and charter services from their hub at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to a network covering more than 133 destinations in 69 countries on five continents.
