During a recent visit with the Zambian North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Alfred Chiingi, the Managing Director of the Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB), Felix Chaila, indicated that domestic tourism in Zambia offers the potential for growth and new job creation in the country’s tourism sector and should be promoted vigorously.
Because of the potential for job creation that tourism offers, Mr. Chaila indicated that the ZTB launched an extensive domestic tourism campaign over the summer to educate people on the benefits of the Zambian tourism sector and has also partnered with local authorities to market and promote local tourism sites across the country.
“In the case of Solwezi, we have beautiful sites like the Kifubwa engravings, the Mutanda falls and as North-Western this is home to the source of the might Zambezi River and all these are sites that we need to promote locally to attract tourists from outside,” he said.
Additionally, Mr. Chaila assured the Permanent Secretary that the ZTB will also engage the Ministry of Tourism and Arts in order to support local authorities in their efforts to promote tourism in their region.
