Zambian airtime distributor StreetCred has announced an exclusive partnership with a South African-based mobile point of sale (PoS) service, Nomanini, which offers services that facilitate cash transactions in informal markets.

According to Vahid Monadjem, CEO of Nomanini, the companies have been working together for the past nine months to increase the number of PoS terminals.

Mr. Monadjem explained in a statement that, informal vendors can use the Nomanini terminal to sell and print airtime vouchers as needed without requiring that they purchase scratch cards in bulk and sell the full stock.

“Distributors don’t need to print and deliver anything either,” he said, “All that’s required is a roll of till paper and the terminal, which can be used even when there’s no internet access or electricity.”

Under the new partnership, StreetCred will encourage Zambian mobile operators and airtime distributors to switch to the Nomanini platform with both companies exploring the option to extend their partnership to include the distribution of prepaid electricity vouchers in the near future.

“Our platform is highly customizable, and can be modified to facilitate just about any cash transaction, including prepaid electricity and water, microloans, and even bus ticketing,” explained Mr. Monadjem.
