Zambia Information Communications Technology Authority Confirms 147 Of 169 Planned Towers Completed

The Zambia Information Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has confirmed that construction of 147 new telecommunication towers have been completed and are currently functioning in rural areas of the country.

In April 2014, the ZICTA launched a plan to construct a total of 169 new towers by October 2014 and, according to Christabel Simbulo, assistant Public Relations Officer for the ZITCA, while the project has been somewhat delayed, final work on the remaining 22 towers is being completed before linking them to the airways.

Ms. Simbulo went on to explain that the zambia telecommunications project will ultimately help to improve communications between the rural and urban communities in Zambia.

The ZICTA is the responsible regulatory body of the Zambian Information and Communications Technology sector with a mandate to effectively provide regulatory services to the country’s ICT sector and enhance universal access o quality ICT services.
