Zambia’s maize production increased from 3,387,469 MT in the 2019/2020 agricultural season to 3,620,244 MT in 2020/2021, with a 7% increase.
The increase in production was mainly due to favorable weather conditions that were experienced in almost every part of the country for much of the season.
Good rains and early distribution of inputs, among other factors, contributed to improved yield, with the season recording a national average yield of 2.14 MT/ Ha compared to 2.07 MT/Ha recorded in the previous agricultural season, representing a 3% increase.
