Sogecoa Zambia Limited, owners of the Golden Peacock Hotel in Zambia, have announced plans to invest USD 15 million in the construction of an international conference and recreation center in the capital of Lusaka.
According to the Zambian Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga, who spoke during the recent groundbreaking ceremony of Golden Peacock International Conference and Recreation Center, the investment will create nearly 120 jobs for Zambians.
Hon. Mukanga went on to praise the Golden Peacock Hotel for its contribution to the Zambia economy since it was established in 2012 and welcomed additional Chinese investment.
“I am aware that Sogecoa Zambia Limited has since invested USD 55 million in construction of Golden Peacock Hotel and now the international conference and recreation center,” he said, “[we] would like to see more Chinese companies investing in Zambia, especially in infrastructure development.”
Also speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the General Manager of Sogecoa Zambia Shen Fengmei indicated that the hotel expects to make additional investments in Zambia in areas including hotels, supermarkets and mines.
Sogecoa is a Chinese state company with investments in Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia among others and has led the efforts in the construction of facilities such as the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
