In an effort to improve the internet experience for its customers, Airtel Zambia has announced plans to update a total of 242 mobile sites before the end of the year at a total cost of USD 80 million.
Since July, Zambia’s largest mobile phone operator has completed upgrades to 58 sites for customers in the Central Province, Copperbelt, Southern Province, Eastern Province, Lusaka and the Northern Province with networks that are now 3G-enabled.
According to the Managing Director of Airtel Networks Zambia, Charity Chanda Lumpa, the completion of the upgrades will result in overall improved quality of the network, but customers should anticipate outages as the upgrades are completed.
“We expect to have outages in the course of this exercise and seek your understanding during this period,” she said, “The ultimate goal is to give you all a delightful, seamless and sustainable experience for your calls and access to your internet.”
