Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, Kiyoshi Koinuma, has indicated his country’s intention to explore investment opportunities in the Zambian agribusiness sector and plans to bring a mission of Japanese investors to Zambia in March 2015 to explore ways to take advantage of these opportunities.

Speaking during a recent tour of the Zambeef Product’s operations in Chisamba, Hon. Koinuma indicated that the Zambia agriculture sector is important to the development of the local economy with Zambeef representing one of the successes of the sector.

“Zambia’s agriculture sector remains one of Japanese foreign direct investment (FDI) priority,” he said, “Zambeef is one of the success stories in the agriculture sector in Zambia and the agriculture sector is one of the priorities for Japanese companies.”

Francis Grogan, joint CEO of Zambeef, welcomed the ambassador and encouraged future investment from interested Japanese partners.

“If the Japanese are interested in developing agribusiness in Zambia there are enormous opportunities to produce food locally and to supply the region,” he said.
